At 77 years old, Don Figliozzi built his 1973 Camaro in his 24×24 home garage with occasional help from his childhood friend, Dennis. This project, which started when Figliozzi was 70, resulted in a show-quality, second-generation Camaro powered by a Chevrolet Performance LS376/525 crate engine.
A lifelong car enthusiast and professional pinstriper from Glen Cove, New York, Figliozzi sought to blend modern technology with classic muscle. The LS376/525 engine, known for its aggressive ASA hydraulic roller camshaft and high horsepower, was a perfect fit.
Figliozzi’s journey with this Camaro began when he stumbled upon a 1973 Motion Camaro clone at a customer’s shop. After acquiring it, he spent a year and a half preparing for the build, which included a Detroit Speed suspension and custom exhaust system by American Racing Headers.
The Camaro’s exterior underwent extensive restoration, with nearly all panels replaced except for the roof. Figliozzi’s attention to detail extended to the paint, using PPG base tint for a pure white finish, and SEM metallic gray bed liner underneath for a unique look. The car features Formula 43 wheels and BF Goodrich tires, enhancing its performance and aesthetics.
Inside, custom graphics, Corbeau seats, and a Detroit Speed roll cage highlight Figliozzi’s craftsmanship. The T56 double-overdrive transmission and 3.73 rear gears in a Ford nine-inch rear end complete the high-performance setup.
Figliozzi, a regular at the Goodguys Columbus show and other events, proudly showcases his Pro Touring-style 1973 Camaro, a testament to his skill and passion for automotive excellence.
