2006 Ferrari Superamerica: A Rare Open-Top Masterpiece

The 2006 Ferrari Superamerica pays homage to the legendary Superamerica-series Ferraris of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Launched in 2005 as a limited-edition convertible version of the Ferrari 575 Maranello, the 575 Superamerica brought a fresh take on open-top V-12 grand tourers, following in the footsteps of the 550 Barchetta. Ferrari sought a more elegant solution for the convertible roof, as the Barchetta’s roof was too cumbersome for many owners.

Enter the revolutionary “Revocromico” rotating hardtop, a design that set the 575 Superamerica apart. This carbon fiber-framed roof integrated with electrochromic glass was the first of its kind in production cars. Its opacity could be adjusted via a dial inside the cabin, allowing drivers and passengers to enjoy the brightness of a sunroof or reduce light to just one percent at its darkest setting. At the press of a button, the Superamerica could transform into a full convertible, with the roof rotating to rest flush with the boot lid in just 10 seconds. Notably, the rear window stayed in place to serve as a wind deflector, enhancing the driving experience.

Ferrari produced only 559 examples of the 575 Superamerica, exclusively for Ferrari VIP customers. The particular example featured here has remained with its original owner since new. Finished in the stunning Giallo Modena with a two-tone Nero and Charcoal interior, this Superamerica was built for the German market and equipped with the F1-style six-speed semi-automatic transmission. Additionally, it boasts the rare option of carbon fiber bucket seats, adding to its exclusivity.

This Superamerica also features the Handling GTC package, which elevates its performance with upgraded carbon-ceramic brakes, sport-tuned suspension, a free-flowing exhaust, and modular 19-inch wheels. Originally owned by a Ferrari enthusiast, the car was exported to Switzerland and has since been driven just under 27,500 km, showcasing its versatility and usability as a grand tourer.

Meticulously maintained, including its most recent service in January 2024, this Superamerica stands as one of the most remarkable Ferraris of the 21st century. With its cutting-edge roof design, rare options, and classic Ferrari performance, the 2006 Ferrari 575 Superamerica is a true masterpiece for collectors and driving enthusiasts alike.
