Aston Martin DB7 GT

Launched at the 2002 British Motor Show, the manual GT and automatic GTA were the most sporting versions of the DB7, powered by a revised V12 engine tweaked to deliver 435 bhp coupled to a six-speed manual transmission (GT) or in normal Vantage 420 bhp tune with a five-speed Touchtronic gearbox (GTA). Production of the GT and GTA only lasted for a few months, making these the rarest and most desirable versions of the DB7 range. Only 191 examples of the DB7 GT were built, while the GTA was rarer yet, with just 112 produced.

Aston Martin launched the Aston Martin DB7 GT, most powerful DB7 ever made, at the 2002 International Birmingham Motor Show.

Based on the Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Coupe, the Aston Martin DB7 GT received a number of dynamic elements which were finely engineered to offer a new dimension to the Aston Martin DB7 driving experience. There were two versions available; a six-speed manual Coupe (DB7 GT) and a five-speed automatic (GTA).

Exterior Changes
Recognised as one of the world’s most beautiful cars, the Aston Martin DB7 GT received subtle but effective changes to complement the elegant, yet classic body design that since 1993 had epitomised the pedigree, heritage and tradition of Aston Martin.

Special attention was paid to the aerodynamic balance for high speed stability with the adoption of additional sweeps for the undertray, wheel arch liner extensions and a revised bootlid emphasised the new look. These additions helped to reduce lift by almost 50%.

Under bonnet air-flow management was assisted by the addition of two distinctive bonnet vents, which also helped dissipate heat. Instantly visible from the exterior were new 5-spoke 18″ alloy wheels equipped with 245/40 front, 265/35 rear low profile Bridgestone tyres that provided optimum levels of performance and grip.

Dynamic Changes
Further development of Aston Martin’s low emissions, all alloy, twin-overhead camshaft, 48 valve, 6.0-litre V12 engine generated an increase in power from 420 bhp (DB7 Vantage) to 435 bhp.

This increased power together with a revised final drive ratio and active sports exhaust system – both unique to the Aston Martin DB7 GT – not only provided noticeable improvement in mid-range power, but also additional torque – up from 400 lb/ft (DB7 Vantage) to 410 lb/ft, giving a faster accelerating, more responsive drive.

The revised quick-shift gear lever on the Aston Martin DB7 GT version and racing twin-plate clutch enabled the driver to maximise use of the increase in power and torque and offers a faster gear change.
